The main portion of the cable is held
rigidly into a fixed position by a pair of powerful, clamping jaws.
The "die" surrounds the bottom
portion of the acid-treated and "broomed" area immediately above
the tie wire.

Operating manual control valves that
activate the hydraulic power, the cable die is powered to move upward and
compresses the "broom" of the wire for its entry into the
socket.

The socket is fed manually over the
"broom" by the operator as the collar die is hydraulically
stepped downward to the desired position to pour the molten zinc or other
final preparation.
